Faridabad: 1 arrested for demanding Rs 10L ransom

The crime branch has arrested a person for allegedly demanding a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from a local jeweller.
The police said the accused, identified as Satish, residing at Sheetla Colony in Sector 5 of Gurugram, was arrested on July 20 following a complaint on July 15. The police said the complaint lodged by Ishani Jeweller had mentioned that a call had been received in which the ransom was sought. Cops said the caller had threatened to kill the jeweller in case the demand was not met.
The accused was nabbed from Gurugram and was remanded to six-day police custody.
During investigation, it was found that the accused, hailing from Champaran district in Bihar, was associated with one Santosh, a resident of Joktiya village of Bihar, and had been involved in some cases of cheating and seeking ransom. As many as 500 transactions were found to be done through 20 bank accounts in the past few years by the two accused. He said though a raid was carried at Jakotiya, Santosh managed to give a slip to the police.
