Gurugram, August 25

Residing in the tail-end sectors of Gurugram, around 2 lakh residents struggling with basic infrastructure issues have prepared a demand charter for the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha elections. The residents of Sectors 75 to 115 have outlined 14 demands and have asked all political parties and leaders to approach them with concrete proposals for resolving these issues, rather than delivering the usual pre-election speeches.

‘Struggle for basic amenities’

Despite making a major contribution to the city’s revenue and living in some of the most expensive homes, New Gurugram residents have to fight for basic amenities. — Praveen Malik, President, United Association of New Gurugram

“Despite making a major contribution to the city’s revenue and living in some of the most expensive homes, the residents of New Gurugram still have to fight for basic amenities. We struggle with issues like roads, connectivity, pollution, and water and power supply. For 10 years, we’ve trusted promises, but now we want leaders to address our specific needs rather than focusing on what they perceive as important,” said Praveen Malik, President of the United Association of New Gurugram.

According to the charter, the residents’ primary demand is toll-free mobility. They have called for the removal of the Kherki Daula toll plaza and free access to the Dwarka Expressway, in addition to better roads, drainage, a dedicated cremation ground, government schools and healthcare facilities, improved public transport, electricity, streetlights, and more.

“Along with the upgrade of the Garhi Harsaru Railway Station, safe roads are a basic right. But we are not only made to pay tolls to move around in our city, we also have to endure pothole-ridden roads. Many societies have no access roads, and despite numerous promises, we never received what we deserve. We will now vote based on our needs,” added Prakhar, another resident along Dwarka Expressway.

The residents also highlighted the lack of sufficient police presence in the area and demanded more chowkis and police stations, as well as better garbage disposal systems. The charter has been posted online, and the residents plan to display it at all society gates to ensure leaders focus on these issues.

Meanwhile, the Toll Hatao Samiti has called for a boycott of BJP candidates, accusing them of misleading the public about the removal of the Kherki Daula toll plaza.
