Extortion case: Daughter-in-law's brother gets bail
Panchkula, June 14
A local court has granted bail to Gaurav Pahwa, brother of financier Anil Bhalla’s daughter-in-law, in the multi-crore extortion and money laundering case.
Praveen Kumar Lal, Additional Sessions Judge, while allowing the bail, directed Pahwa to furnish a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh with one surety in the like amount to the satisfaction of the court, subject to the conditions that the petitioner shall cooperate in the investigation and would not influence the witnesses.
The police had arrested Pahwa along with Anil Bhalla’s wife and daughter-in-law and recovered Rs 4.63 crore, two illegal arms and ammunition, and 697 grams of opium on May 30.
Anil Mehta, counsel for Pahwa, contended that his client was innocent and had not committed any offence as mentioned in the FIR. He said the petitioner had nothing to do with the recoveries made by the police. The money, bank account and the bank locker all are in the name of Anjali Bhalla and his client had only accompanied his sister to the bank as his brother-in-law Sahil Bhalla had been arrested.
