Exhibition, featuring works of six artists, opens at fine arts academy

Indian Academy of Fine Arts (IAFA) is hosting a group exhibition of six artists from Hyderabad. The artists include Sujatha Venkat, Renuka Devi, Rekha Korasala, Archana Sailesh Gaali, Sayyad Shaiek and Balachary Ravulapally. Coming to Amritsar for the first time with their work, these artists were invited by the IAFA as part of their outreach and art promotion activities.

Displaying 45 paintings on varied themes and media, the exhibition is an attempt to engage art students, artists from the state and art lovers. Inaugurating the exhibition, Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, president, IAFA, senior artist Shivdev Singh, Chairman, IAFA, appreciated the work. Dr PS Grover, general secretary, IAFA, said the artists would also be interacting with the visitors and students during the exhibition.

Among the prominent themes were landscapes, abstract and 3D art work. Balachary Ravulapally, who has been painting for the last two decades, and mostly works with shapes, engaged the visitors with his acrylic art work. Sujatha Venkat, an artist and a trainer, who paints life size portraits, also displayed her finest works. Sayyad Shaiek, another artist from Hyderabad who has been featured in many solo and groups exhibitions, drew applause for his abstract realism.

Artist Kulwant Singh Gill was present at the inauguration and said: “The young generation of Amritsar must come forward to support art and artists as they are well-read and travelled.” The exhibition is open till October 9.
