Ex-Sarpanch among 12 booked on attempt to murder charge
A former Sarpanch was among 12 persons booked on charges of attempt to murder after they assaulted Manual Masih of Chamiari village falling under Ajnala police station with sharp weapons leaving him seriously injured.
An old enmity is stated to be the reason behind the incident but no arrest has been made till now.
Those arrested were identified as former Sarpanch Mukhtar Singh of Mukam village, Samun Masih, David Masih, Jagroop Singh of Chamiari village, Gurwant Singh, Gurwinder Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Jaskaran Singh and Hapreet Singh, all residents of Mukam village besides three unidentified persons.
Manual Masih stated to the police that three days ago, he was working at his shop when the accused gathered outside in the evening and started shouting, challenging him to come out of the shop. He said as he came out, the accused attacked him with sharp weapons and sticks on his head. He suffered grievous injuries and fell on the road. He said his brother Vicky also came to save him, but the accused thrashed him. Later, they absconded from the spot.
Police said raids were on to nab the absconders and a case has been registered. They said an old enmity was the reason behind the incident.
