Ex-Army Engineer-in-Chief celebrates 101st birthday
Lt Gen SN Sharma of Kangra, who retired as the Engineer-in-Chief of the Indian Army, recently celebrated his 101st birthday. The family residing at Dadh has made distinguished contributions to the Indian Army. General Sharma’s father Major General Amar Nath Sharma was an Army doctor, who retired as the Director-General of Army Medical Corps.
His elder brother Major Somnath Sharma was the first recipient of Param Vir Chakra (PVC), the highest gallantry award in India, during the 1948 war with Pakistan. His younger brother General Vishwanath Sharma rose to the rank of the Chief of Indian Army during 1988-1990. His younger sister also served as a Major in the Army Medical Corps.
Lt Gen Arvind Walia, current Engineer-in-Chief, and Lt Gen Vivek Rohila, serving DG of the Indian Army, also joined him in the birthday celebrations.
