Hamirpur, September 2

The Language Art and Culture Department here today organised district-level competitions on the occasion of Hindi Fortnight.

The department organised declamation, essay-writing and quiz competitions on the occasion. Over 180 students from about 60 schools of the district participated in the events.

In the declamation competition, Arijita of Him Academy School, Hiranagar, won the first position, while Kritika Sharma of Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Kharwad, stood second and Ishil Kapil of GSSS, Garli, secured the third position.

In the essay-writing competition, Vishal of GSSS (boys), Nadaun, stood first, Anushka of Him Academy, Hiranagar, stood second and Sameeksha of GSSS, Rangas, was third. In the quiz competition, Jyoti Sharma of GSSS, Jaladi, won the first position, while Kashish of GSSS, Chauri, got the second position and Shreya Dhiman of GSSS, Bijhari, got the third position.

Dr Pritam Chand of the Dhaneta college, Dr Vijay Kumar of the Barsar college, Dr Asha Devi of the Bhoranj college, Shashi Sharma of the Sujanpur college, and Kartik and Hoshiyar Chand of the Nadaun college were present as members of the jury.

District Language Officer Nikku Ram said the department was playing an important role in the preservation and promotion of Hindi, and many programmes and activities were regularly organised by the department.

Efforts were being made to encourage the use of Hindi in society, he added.
