Equality, social justice top priorities for J&K Govt: L-G Sinha
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said that equality and social justice are the top priorities for the UT government. “Public welfare is my ‘Dharma’ and ‘Kartavya’. It is being ensured that the benefits of the development reach all the sections of the society without any discrimination,” he said while speaking at a commemorative event of Dogra General Zorawar Singh.
He highlighted that the progressive and citizen-centric policies of the government have strengthened the faith of the common man in the governance system. “Speed of infrastructure development was accelerated manifold in the last five years and hundreds of projects stalled for decades were fast-tracked. Now, the ideals of democracy and the values enshrined in the Constitution have become an integral part of the governance process,” the Lieutenant Governor added.
“Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, changes have taken place in recent years and these changes exemplify inclusive development, eliminating biases and fostering hope and stability among the people. Whether in villages or cities, the reduction of gaps between basic amenities and citizens’ aspirations is visibly evident. Over the past few years, grassroots democracy has deepened and democratic ideals and constitutional values have become the guiding principles of our collective consciousness,” the L-G said.

Addressing the commemorative event organised by General Zorawar Singh Memorial Educational and Charitable Trust at Gulshan Ground Jammu, the Lieutenant Governor spoke on General Zorawar Singh’s military campaigns in Ladakh, Baltistan, Tibet and highlighted his immense contribution to the expansion of the Dogra Empire.
“The sacrifices of great personalities like General Zorawar Singh were rooted in the resolve to establish harmony, peace, and prosperity in society. Their vision resonates with the ongoing efforts to end longstanding discriminatory practices and bring these marginalised groups into the mainstream,” he said.
He added that the life of General Zorawar Singh is a “beacon of inspiration” for generations, adding that his legacy “teaches us” how challenges in national service can be met with courage and determination, preserving the essence of our civilisation.
“The life and work of great persons always inspire others. General Zorawar Singh’s leadership inspired millions to unite for the cause of equitable path of growth. His vision and values guiding us to work for those sections of the society who have got left behind,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor appreciated the members of General Zorawar Singh Memorial Educational and Charitable Trust for their endeavours to make young generation aware of the inspiring saga of General Zorawar Singh.
“I believe the lives and deeds of great personalities always inspire others. A society that does not preserve the memory of its great men and ancestors, and does not draw inspiration from them, risks losing its identity in history.
“Their remembrance motivates thousands to unite on the path of equitable development and dedicate themselves to working for underdeveloped sections of society,” he said.
He also called upon the youth to selflessly serve the society and contribute towards nation building. “I have full faith that together we will realise the resolve of Developed India,” he said.
