As the world grappled with a pandemic in 2020, people took to Twitter to stay informed, connected and entertained. From nostalgic talks about #Ramayan and #Mahabaharat, to paying tribute to #SushantSinghRajput, to more, people connected virtually and, yet, more intimately. And now, as we come close to the end of 2020, Twitter, on Tuesday, released a list featuring tweets, hashtags and trends that made headlines this year.
Topping the list is the tweet on Chadwick Boseman’s account, dated August 29. The post was a statement issued by Chadwick’s family, announcing his unfortunate death. As on Tuesday (December 8), the tweet had 2.1 million retweets and 9,24,500 quote tweets (3.1 million total), 1,65,600 comments and 7.5 million likes. It has become the most engaging tweet of 2020 in global entertainment on Twitter.
The most liked tweet of 2020 is Anushka Sharma’s pregnancy announcement. On 27th August, while flaunting her baby bump Anushka had released a statement that read, “And then, we were three! Arriving Jan 2021.” The post has fetched more than 450k likes. On the other hand, the most retweeted tweet of 2020 is Tamil actor Vijay’s selfie with fans at Neyveli from the sets of his upcoming film Master, shortly after the IT raids at his residence. It has close to 160k retweets.
The most quoted tweet of 2020 is the one by Amitabh Bachchan in July. In this post, Big B had revealed that he has been diagnosed with Covid-19. People from all over commented and wished a speedy recovery to Mr Bachchan. This tweet has been quoted for more than 166k times.
Top three Hashtags of 2020 on Twitter India were #COVID-19, #SushantSinghRajput and #Hathras. From movies, #DilBechara is the most tweeted hashtag. Meanwhile, Mirzapur 2, Money Heist and Aarya were the most-talked-about web series. Most-talked-about TV shows include Bigg Boss, Naagin 4 and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai.
