During the festival season, the increasing encroachments on roads of the twin cities Yamunanagar and Jagadhri are affecting the city bus service. The buses are getting stuck in traffic jams on the roads due to the encroachments.

Passengers travelling in city buses are bearing the brunt as they are not reaching their destinations on time. On many occasions, the buses also don’t complete their trips. Under the city bus service, three electric AC buses are being run in Yamunanagar and Jagadhri.

As per available information, the buses are always getting stuck in traffic jams in several areas, including on Jagadhri Workshop Road, Railway Road, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk, in front of Municipal Corporation Office, near Geeta Bhawan, near Paper Mill gate, near New Market and on Maharaja Agrasen Chowk (near railway station).

In these areas, autos, rickshaws and other vehicles are parked haphazardly leading to traffic jams.

Besides, a number of vendors stand with their rehris alongside the roads disturbing vehicular movement in several areas. “The Municipal Corporation authorities should take concrete steps to remove the encroachments alongside the roads, so that vehicles, including city buses, can run easily on the roads,” said Anil Kumar, a resident of Professor Colony.

Sushil Kumar of Basant Nagar Colony inJagadhri said it was difficult to drive a motorcycle in some areas due to encroachments on the roads.

“There is a lot of encroachment at many places on Railway Road from Shahid Bhagat Singh Chowk to Maharaja Agrasen Chowk. Handcarts, autos, rickshaws and other vehicles are parked haphazardly there, due to which not only the city buses but also the cars get stuck in the traffic jam. The department concerned needs to pay attention to this problem,” said Sushil Kumar.

Diwakar Sinha, Manager, City Bus Service said that they were facing a major problem in plying buses due to encroachment on roads.

“We are plying three buses in Yamunanagar and Jagadhri. Six trips have been fixed for each bus, but they failed to complete their trips due to encroachment on roads,” said Diwakar Sinha.
