Encroachments cause congestion on roads, rue Mohali residents
Residents of Phase 9 complained of unauthorised street vendors and shop owners encroaching and congesting the main road in Mohali on Wednesday. They said these vending carts and stalls lead to traffic congestion on the road, leading to long queues of vehicles and chaos in the market area. They said this also put pedestrians and two-wheeler drivers at an increased risk of accidents.
“It has become difficult for women and children to cross the road during the morning and evening hours,” said Amarpreet Kaur, a Phase 9 resident. Residents also complained that the area’s councillor and the Municipal Corporation officials had failed to remove these encroachers, despite requests, for unknown reasons.
A Phase 10 resident, Harwinder Singh, said, “It has become an ordeal to cross this stretch of the road. The MC officials do not take any action against encroachers.” The MC officials said anti-encroachment drives were carried on from time to time.
