Emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and blockchain have the potential to impact society and e-governance delivery system in a big way, said Vinod P Kavle, Secretary, Information Technology, Chandigarh, during a conference on emerging technologies here today.

The conference was organised by Society for Promotion of IT in Chandigarh (SPIC) under the aegis of the Department of IT, Chandigarh Administration, and IxDA, Chandigarh.

Cognitive technologies such as AI and deep learning could eventually revolutionise every facet of government operations, Kavle said and added that a blockchain-based digital solution in government could protect data, streamline processes and reduce fraud, waste and abuse while simultaneously increasing trust, and accountability. Nazuk Kumar, Director, Information Technology, urged to hold such events on a regular basis which gave an opportunity to exchange ideas with startups and IT community on a real time basis so that the government could keep pace with rapid expansion in emerging technologies happening in IT industry which would enable government the in incorporating emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and blockchain to develop innovative e-governance solutions for the citizens. — TNS
