Dasehra was celebrated with a difference in this region of Malwa.

Enthusiasts led by office-bearers of various social, educational and government organisations burnt effigies of drugs, which were installed along with effigies of Ravan, Meghnad and Kumbhkaran with an intent to wean youth away from its abuse.

Initially launched by office-bearers of Rotary District 3090, comprising parts of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, the coordinated movement launched against the menace of drug abuse was joined by a number of other social and educational organisations.

“Enthusiasts also organised declamation contests, seminars and exhibitions of charts and banners on the subject at various places,” said Chauhan.

Meanwhile, festive fervour prevailed in Malerkotla, Amargarh and Ahmedgarh as residents celebrated Dasehra.
