Education Department to ensure biometric attendance

The Education Department has taken stringent measures to ensure regular attendance marking through Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) in all higher educational institutions.

Despite repeated directives, some institutions were found to be lax in attendance marking, citing technical issues with their biometric machines.

To address this, the department has instructed Deputy Directors to monitor and enforce AEBAS usage.

Defective machines must be promptly repaired, and until then, manual attendance registers should be maintained and submitted to the Nodal Officer (IT) at the district level. Daily reports on machine status are mandatory. The department has emphasised the importance of AEBAS compliance and warned of strict action against non-compliant institutions.
