ED cracks down on Fairplay betting app, Rs 4 crore seized in latest raids
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has conducted searches at eight locations in Mumbai and Kutch, Gujarat, in connection with the Fairplay betting app case, seizing documents, cash, and electronic devices worth Rs 4 crore. This brings the total seizure in the case to Rs 117 crore.
ED’s investigation was prompted by an FIR filed by Viacom18 Media Pvt Limited with the Nodal Cyber Police, Mumbai, against Fairplay Sport LLC and others for violating various sections of the IPC, Information Technology Act, and Copyright Act, resulting in revenue loss of over Rs 100 crore.
The probe revealed that Krish Laxmichand Shah, the mastermind behind Fairplay, had set up multiple companies like in Curacao, Dubai, and Malta to operate the betting app. The search action targeted individuals providing technical and financial support services to Fairplay, uncovering high-value asset purchases in India exceeding Rs 100 crore.
