EC imposes 24-hour campaign ban on controversial BJP MP Parvesh for remarks against Delhi CM
New Delhi, February 5
The Election Commission of India banned Bharatiya Janata Party’s controversial Member of Parliament Parvesh Verma for 24 hours on Wednesday for his remarks against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Verma has been banned for having referred to Kejriwal as “terrorist”—his second ban this election season. The ban came into force at 6 pm on Wednesday.
This means he will not be able to campaign for the February 8 Delhi assembly polls any further. Campaigning ends at 5 pm on Thursday
The commission previously banned last week for having said that protesters at Shaheen Bagh would “enter your houses and rape your sisters and daughters”. The statement led to Election Commission imposing a 96-hour ban on campaigning. Verma refused to voice remorse for his statements.
The commission meanwhile also pulled up Kejriwal for his promise of mohalla clinics on court premises and asked him to be more careful in the future.
Delhi will vote for assembly elections on February 9. Votes will be counted two days later, on February 11. Agencies
