EAM S Jaishankar assures Afghan President Ashraf Ghani of support

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reached Tashkent from nearby Dushanbe on Thursday along with the same set of ministers from other countries to discuss the future of Afghanistan and promote connectivity in one of the least connected regions of the world.
India, Africa against ‘vaccine apartheid’
New Delhi: India has joined hands with African countries to present a united front against “vaccine apartheid” being practised by developing countries, especially the European Union. As part of this process, MoS for External Affairs V Muralidharan consulted the Ministers from Malawi and Ghana, Eisenhower Mkaka and Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, respectively, to call upon the acceptance of vaccines administered through the global initiative. Jaishankar called on Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to discuss the current situation in and around Afghanistan and reiterate India’s support for its peace, stability and development.
Jaishankar also met US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad and Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, US Deputy NSA.
The minister had arrived from Dushanbe after attending the SCO ministerial and the SCO contact group on Afghanistan. Here in Uzbekistan, they were joined by high-ranking leaders from Japan and the US for the “International Conference on Central and South Asia Regional Connectivity, Challenges and Opportunities”. Around 250 participants and 40 delegates from different countries took part in this discussion.
Jaishankar also held talks with his Bangladeshi counterpart AK Abdul Momen to review the progress in ties, including its connectivity aspects.
