DUSU poll: NSUI, ABVP win 2 seats each

Ronak Khatri, a 23-year-old law student from Narela, Delhi, has secured the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president’s post for the Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), marking the party’s return to power after a seven-year gap.

Khatri, widely known as ‘Matkaman’ on the DU campus, has long been an advocate of student rights. A student at the DU Law Centre, Khatri earned the unique moniker due to his innovative campaign style. Notably, he installed traditional water pitchers, or matkas, around various DU colleges to protest the poor quality of water in the campus. His victory is seen as a significant win for NSUI, as it marks the first time since 2017 that the party has claimed the DUSU president’s post.

ABVP’s Bhanu Pratap Singh who won the vice-president’s post is a graduate in Psychology (Honors) from Sri Aurobindo College. Originally from Faridabad, Haryana, he has organised various competitions aimed at the holistic development of students and has served as secretary of the students’ union of his college. He is currently pursuing law at University of Delhi.

ABVP’s Mitravinda Karnwal who won the secretary’s post is a third-year History (Honors) student from Lakshmibai College. Karnwal is actively involved in women’s issues and social service. She previously served as the secretary of the student union in her college and has worked under ABVP's Ritumati campaign.

NSUI’s Lokesh Choudhary who secured the joint secretary’s position is a 24-year-old student from Hisar, Haryana. He is currently a student of Buddhist Studies in Delhi University.
