Drug smuggling network uncovered in Sriganganagar
During an interrogation at the Hindumalkot police station in Sriganganagar, two suspects, brought from Faridkot jail on production warrants, revealed crucial information regarding a drug smuggling network. One of the suspects, Ajay Singh, who is also a convicted child molester, had previously been sent to a reform home after being presented before the Juvenile Justice Board.
Another suspect is a minor boy. The information gathered is expected to assist in further investigations into the drug trafficking operations.
The police on Sunday got a five day remand of Ajay Singh, a resident of Hazara Ram Singh Wala village in Fazilka. It also brought Hazara’s associate Sonu Singh for questioning, who is currently locked up in Faridkot jail. Another associate Bablu Singh is currently on the run from the police.
The police added that a local contact Gurmej Singh was arrested in a drug smuggling case on October 19. A drone of Pakistani smugglers was found in Dullapur Keri village near the border on October 18.
After examining the drone at a forensic lab in Jodhpur, it was revealed that the drone had flown four times from Pakistan to India on October 17. A case was eventually registered against Gurmej Singh, under sections 10 and 11 of the Indian Aircraft Act 1934, and sections 28 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
DSP (Rural) Rahul Yadav said that after investigating Gurmej, it was revealed that Ajay Singh, Sonu, Bablu and a minor boy had come from Jalalabad to collect a consignment of heroin sent by the drone concerned.
The police said the four suspects again came to Dullapur Keri village on October 23 to collect another consignment of heroin. The three suspects with 1.35kg of heroin were caught by the Fazilka CIA Staff on Sunday.
It was revealed that Ajay Singh had been in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers, namely Ali and Haji.
