To combat drug trafficking, the district police have set up checkpoints along the inter-state border in Lahaul and Spiti district.

The police have deployed sniffer dog squads at various locations to enhance the effectiveness of surprise checks. The use of trained canine units is expected to significantly aid in the detection of illegal substances.

The local authorities have stressed the importance of community cooperation in this initiative. “Together, we can safeguard our community and build a better future for everyone,” says Lahaul and Spiti SP Mayank Chaudhary. The checkpoints are strategically placed to deter potential traffickers.

“The district police are not only focusing on enforcement but also on creating awareness among the public about the dangers of drug abuse. The police are encouraging local residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may indicate drug trafficking or abuse in their neighbourhood,” the SP says.

“This proactive approach aligns with national and state-level efforts to eradicate drug-related issues and foster a healthier environment for all. The community’s involvement is crucial and the Police Department invites citizens to join hands in this fight against drug abuse,” he adds.
