Drive against drugs: Kurukshetra cops raid 18 locations; four peddlers arrested
The Kurukshetra district police have launched a drive to nab drug peddlers. As part of the campaign, 18 teams, including personnel of the CIA-1, CIA-2 and the Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) of the Kurukshetra police, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), City, Om Prakash, conducted raids at 18 locations in Gandhi Nagar on Thursday evening.
Besides these, six more teams were formed to ensure law and order and dog squads were also used to recover narcotics during raids.
During the raids, smack/heroin, ganja, ornaments, LED TV, mobile phones and cash were recovered.
The police teams arrested four, including three women, and registered five FIRs in connection with recoveries. The arrested accused are Rajesh Kumar, Sunita, Santosh and Ruma.
The police said investigations in connection with the recovered ornaments, mobile phones and other valuables had been started to find out if those were stolen.
Superintendent of Police, Kurukshetra, Varun Singla said, “Following Intelligence-based inputs regarding drug peddling in the Gandhi Nagar area, 18 teams were formed to conduct the raids in search of 18 targets who were involved in drug peddling. They conducted raids at all locations simultaneously and drugs and other valuables were recovered from five locations. During the raids, Rajesh Kumar, Sunita and Ruma were arrested while Santosh managed to flee, but later she was also arrested. Another woman, identified as Vina, is still absconding as she managed to flee after seeing the police teams. Raids are being conducted to nab her.”
“The teams have recovered over 455-gm smack/heroin, 260-gm ganja, gold and silver ornaments, 13 mobile phones, LED TV and over Rs 5.47 lakh in cash from the accused. The accused used to obtain the narcotics and supplied it to other peddlers. The worth of recovered drugs in the international market is around Rs 50 lakh. Other people who are involved in the illegal activities are being identified and will be arrested soon,” he said.
Earlier on Wednesday, an Anti-narcotics Cell team arrested Mohammad Shubhan and Akashdeep, residents of Punjab, and recovered over 3 kg opium from their possession.
The SP said constant efforts were being made to break the nexus of drug smugglers. "Similar raids will be conducted in the coming days too. We also appeal to the residents to help the police by sharing information about smugglers active in their areas,” he said.
