As per the authorities, the step has been taken to enhance a sense of security among passengers as well as professionalism among the drivers. Officials believe that it may help reduce road mishaps and ensure passengers’ safety.

The move was implemented today and on the first day, nearly 30 drivers adhered to the dress code.

Gaurav Punia, city traffic incharge, motivated the other drivers to follow the dress code. “There are around 2,500 auto and e-rickshaw drivers in the city. We have held meetings with them and soon, all the drivers will adhere to the dress code. In case of non-adherence, action will be taken against them under the Motor Vehicles Act,” he added.

“Auto and e-rickshaw drivers are required to adhere to the dress code while driving. The prescribed dress includes a collared grey shirt with a trouser. The names of driver with their photographs and phone numbers have already been printed on auto or e-rickshaws, which display their identity,” said the city traffic incharge.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Shashank Kumar Sawan emphasised the importance of maintaining a dress code for drivers and termed it a crucial step towards road safety and enhancing the professionalism among them.

“The step has been initiated to address the concerns regarding road safety and improve the overall travelling experience for passengers. The aim is to instil a sense of discipline, accountability and professionalism among the drivers, which is expected to reflect positively on their conduct and service delivery,” the SP added.

He said the auto and e-rickshaw drivers have to mention the number on their rickshaws allotted to them.
