Ludhiana, August 29
The city today received 40.4 mm of rainfall which provided a relief to residents from the scorching heat but at the same time, also resulted in waterlogging in many areas.
The maximum temperature recorded today was 26°C while the minimum was 23.8°C.
According to the Department of Climate Change and Agricultural Meteorology, the weather is expected to remain cloudy with the possibility of light rainfall over Ludhiana and its adjoining areas during the next 24 hours.
The rain started around 4 this morning and it continued throughout the day.
“Finally getting a feel of the monsoon season. The weather is cool and a hot cuppa on the rainy day made my day today,” said Shruti, a city resident.
Meanwhile, the downpour also led to waterlogging in many parts of the city. Ferozepur Road, Aggar Nagar, Chandigarh Road and Sarabha Nagar were among spots which experienced waterlogging today.
The parking area of the BRS Nagar market, located near CFC Public School, was also filled with water. “The major portion of the parking lot of the market was inundated. Parking becomes a big problem during rainy days as one side of the parking lot gets filled with water. Parking fees is being given by those who park their vehicles at the lot but look at the facilities provided by the authorities,” said Rajeev, a resident who came to the place to visit a store.
The Ferozepur road, which was also waterlogged after today’s rainfall, caused much inconvenience to commuters. Water usually accumulates near Grand Walk on the road due to which pedestrians had to face a tough time.
Commuters on Chandigarh Road were worst affected as roads turned into pools after the downpour. “The situation remains the same every year. The authorities need to look into such issues and take corrective measures,” a resident said.
