Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh enthralled thousands of fans with his electrifying performance at the Exhibition Ground in Sector 34 today. The concert, which was part of his “Dil-Luminati Tour”, was a testament to the singer-actor’s immense popularity and his ability to connect with audience through his soulful music.

Donning a white kurta-pyjama with a “turle wali pagg” while opening the show, Diljit dedicated the concert to Gukesh Dommaraju, who has become the new World Chess Championship. Diljit opened the show with song “Diamond” showering praise on the 18-year-old chess champion.

While talking about obstacles faced in life, Diljit brought on the swagger he is known for. He said, “Musibtan aungiyan, meinu tan roj hi aundiyan ne, par Pushpa da dialogue hai na, ‘ye jhukega ni sala’. Acha je sala ni jhukega tan saleyon, jija jhuk jaega. Vekhon tan sahi samne kaun e fer, aah dosanjhanwala e bugge.”

The 40-year-old singer made audience break into bhangra as he sang all his hit singles such as “Born to Shine”, “Vibe”, “G.O.A.T”, “Hass Hass”, “Do You Know” and “Kinni Kinni”. Chandigarhians were lucky to have witnessed Diljit sing his new single, “Don”, which has Shah Rukh Khan’s voiceover. He also sang film songs “Ikk Kudi”, “Naina” and “Choli Ke Peeche”. “Ishq Mitaye” from film “Amar Singh Chamkila” with lyrics “Main Hoon Punjab” was especially dedicated to his concert here.

The singer also crooned his old melody “Pyar”, for his old fans who have seen his journey over the past 22 years and knew from where it all started. Talking about the song, “Ik Kudi”, Diljit recalled Punjabi poet Shiv Kumar Batalvi. “I don’t know in which context Batalvi Sahab had written this song but I often connect it to finding one’s soul,” said Diljit.

Diljit also felt bad that he could not call children on stage due to restrictions and instructions imposed on him for the show, but he thanked everybody who came out to watch him perform live. The singer even sang and gifted his gloves, bracelet and jacket to fans in the crowd. For a fan, who attended the concert on her birthday, Diljit not only sang his Punjabi song, “Happy Birthday”, but also gifted her something from what he wore for the night.

Keeping in view the controversy over singing songs on liquor, he specifically replaced words such as “daru” or “adhiye” with “coke” in his songs “Lemonade”, “Mitran De Junction Te” and “Lalkaara”.

Fans’ excitement knew no bounds to see as a full-blown Punjabi performer dancing his heart out. With their illuminating entry bands, fans of Diljit marked their attendance in great numbers as they said in unison, “Punjabi aa gaye oye, te Punjabi cha gaye oye”.
