Sirsa, September 1

The district administration on Thursday issued a notice to Digvijay Chautala, secretary general of the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), for allegedly violating the model code of conduct (MCC). The notice follows a complaint from Congress leaders, who claim that Chautala breached the election rules by participating in the inauguration of several e-libraries.

In response, the JJP clarified that the e-libraries were established by an organisation called Aayaas, and Chautala attended the events solely as the chief guest. The party emphasised that neither Chautala nor his party had any direct involvement in the library’s setup, which was independently organised by Aayaas. Chautala, who is contesting for the Dabwali constituency, attended the library inauguration at the invitation of the institution. However, a complaint was lodged by the Congress leaders two days ago, accusing Chautala of breaching the election code. This led the district administration to investigate and subsequently issue the notice.

The controversy centres on Chautala’s involvement in the inauguration of e-libraries in the villages of Bijjuwali, Masitan and Gobindgarh that were reportedly established under the name of a specific organisation. The election officials’ inquiry confirmed these activities, resulting in the notice being served to Chautala for violating the election code.

According to the notice, Chautala inaugurated the e-library in Bijjuwali village on August 24 without obtaining the required permissions from the Panchayat or the Block Development Officer. The notice further directs Chautala to provide a response within 48 hours.
