Mahadev betting app promoter Saurabh Chandrakar arrested in Dubai
Saurabh Chandrakar, a key promoter of the Mahadev betting app, was arrested in Dubai on October 10, following a red corner notice issued by Interpol at the request of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The UAE authorities have informed the Indian External Affairs Ministry about the arrest, and the extradition process is expected to begin soon.
Chandrakar’s arrest is linked to alleged illegal activities, including money laundering, involving the Mahadev betting app. The app is accused of operating through a network of panel operators across India, laundering money from illegal betting activities. Several political figures from Chhattisgarh and other states are reportedly involved.
The Mahadev app operated from a central head office in the UAE, with large-scale hawala operations to siphon off betting proceeds to offshore accounts.
Cases have been registered in several states, with ongoing investigations into the app’s operations. ED has arrested 11 persons and filed two chargesheets, including against two promoters.
He previously ran a juice shop with his brother in Bhilai before moving to Dubai in 2019. His lavish wedding in Dubai in February 2023 reportedly cost Rs 200 crore.
As the extradition process begins, Chandrakar will face investigation and potential charges related to the alleged illegal activities.
