An old video of 21-year-old Rishi Sunak saying he “does not have working-class friends” has gone viral. The video resurfaced online after he announced his candidacy for the UK Prime Minister post.
The video where 21-year-old Rishi is saying he does not have working-class friends has created a stir amid the speculation of him being one of the top frontrunner contenders.
“I have friends who are aristocrats, I have friends who are upper-class, I have friends who are, you know, working-class. Well, not working class,” Sunak said in a 2001 BBC documentary.
“I have friends who are aristocrats, friends who are upper class and friends who are working class….well not WORKING CLASS!”

In the BBC documentary ‘Middle Classes- Their Rise & Sprawl’, Sunak said, “I have friends who are aristocrats, I have friends who are upper-class, I have friends who are, you know, working-class. Well, not working class”.
Last week, Rishi Sunak’s wife Akshata Murthy faced twitter storm as she served journalists tea in cups worth Rs 3,600 each amid soaring cost of living in the UK. This did not do down well with the netizens amid hike in taxes and a soaring cost of living in the country, which was one of the reasons behind public outcry against Boris Johnson-led government.

Sunak, then the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, was criticism over the rise in taxes. The Opposition had also targeted him over the non-domicile tax status of his wife.
