Dharamsot case: VB files challan in Mohali court

The Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Saturday filed a challan pertaining to the forest scam in the Mohali court within the stipulated time and the case has been committed to sessions court for regular trial.
A spokesperson for the State VB said in this forest scam, a case had already been registered on July 6 against former Forest Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, District Forests Officer Guramanpreet Singh and Kamalpreet Singh, then OSD to minister, besides other accused. They were arrested on June 7 and are in judicial custody, he said.
In this case, a final report under Section 173(2) of the CrPC has been filed in the Sessions Court, Mohali, against accused Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Guramanpreet Singh, DFO, and Kamalpreet Singh. Further, the case has been marked for trial to the Additional and Sessions Court, Mohali, and the next date for consideration has been fixed for August 8.
Notably, the former minister, in connivance with other accused from the Forest Department and private contractors, was allegedly involved in corruption pertaining to the issuance of permits for cutting of trees, transfer of officials, purchases in the department and issuance of NOCs etc. He said the VB, after thorough investigations has arrested the above-mentioned persons, besides other accused.
