As many as 62 roads were blocked, 154 power transformers and 26 water supply schemes were damaged across the state following heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours.

According to a report of the State Emergency Operation Centre, 38 roads were blocked in Mandi district. The blocked roads in Mandi include seven in Jogindernagar, five each in Dharampur, Sarkaghat, Karsog and Padhar subdivisions, three each in Seraj and Gohar subdivisions, two each in Thalout and Sundernagar and one in Mandi subdivision. Similarly, 14 roads (eight in Nirmand, five in Banjar and one in Kullu) were blocked in Kullu district following heavy rainfall. Besides, five roads were blocked in Rampur subdivision of Shimla, four in Sirmaur district (three in Shillai and one in Sangrah) and one road in Indora subdivision of Kangra district.

Similarly, 154 power transformers were disrupted in Mandi district alone while 25 water supply schemes (21 in Shimla, three in Sirmaur and two in Chamba) were affected due to rain.

Meanwhile, extremely heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places, heavy to very heavy rain at a few places and light to moderate rain occurred at most places across the state during the past 24 hours. Average minimum temperatures were normal while average maximum temperatures were below normal.

Dharamsala received 214.6 mm rain, highest in the state, followed by Palampur (212.4 mm), Kangra (157.6 mm), Dhaula Kuan (70 mm), Dehra Gopipur (47 mm), Una (50.6 mm), Mandi (46.4 mm), Bhuntar (34.8 mm), Dalhousie (31 mm), Sundernagar (32.9 mm), Manali (30 mm), Kasauli (24 mm), Shimla (17.2 mm), Narkanda (19 mm), Bilaspur (13 mm) and Kufri and Solan (8.2 mm each).

“Heavy rain and light to moderate rainfall will continue to occur across the state till July 12,” said Dr Surender Paul, Director, State’s Meteorological Department. The department has also issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall for 10 districts except Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti districts till July 12. Heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms at isolated place are likely to occur tomorrow while thunderstorms with lightning are likely to occur at isolated places in the state till July 12.

The maximum temperatures recorded across the state are Shimla (22.8°C), Dharamsala (26.5°C) and Manali (21.3°C), Sundernagar (28.5°C), Bhuntar (28.6°C), Kalpa (22.3°C), Una (32°C), Nahan (26.9°C), Solan (28.2°C), Kangra (29.2°C), Mandi (28°C), Bilaspur (32.6°C), Hamirpur (31.5°C), Chamba (31.4°C), Narakanda (19.5°C) and Reckong Peo (27.3°C). Chamba was the hottest place in the state at 34.1°C while Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district with 6.9°C minimum temperature was the coldest.

Boulder falls on bus, two hurt

A large boulder rolled down the hills and hit a private bus in Sirmaur district today. The bus driver and a woman passenger were injured in the incident. The private bus was going from Badag to Nohra Dhar in Sangrah subdivision. When it reached near Kalth, a large boulder suddenly fell from the hills onto the front right side of the bus, injuring the driver and a woman passenger. The woman suffered injuries on a leg. Both were admitted to a nearby hospital. OC
