Dhami disgraced SGPC, cannot be let off: Bibi Jagir Kaur
SAD leader Bibi Jagir Kaur today said SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami has disgraced the religious body by passing obscene and derogatory remark against a woman.
After meeting the Punjab State Women Commission chairperson Raj Lalli Gill in Mohali today, the SAD leader said, "It is for the first time that an SGPC president had to appear before the Punjab State Women Commission for abusing a woman. He (Dhami) also admitted his fault here. It saddens me that the head of our supreme organisation had to be summoned here for such a disgraceful act. But that person should not be let off."
In her meeting with the panel's chairperson, Bibi Jagir Kaur has recommended legal action against the 68-year-old.
On December 16, Dhami appeared before the the commission and apologised for his derogatory remarks against Bibi Jagir Kaur.
The panel had taken suo-motu cognisance of Dhami's remarks under Section 12 of the Punjab State Women Commission Act, 2001. The panel’s attention was drawn to an audio recording circulating on the social media, in which Dhami allegedly used ‘highly offensive and demeaning’ language during a telephonic conversation with a journalist, targeting Bibi Jagir Kaur.
