DGP leads cordon & search operation in Mohali
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday led the state police force to carry out an extensive cordon and search operation (CASO) in Mohali to eradicate street crimes, including snatching, eve-teasing and theft.
Yadav, who joined DIG (Ropar Range) Nilambari Jagdale and Mohali SSP Deepak Pareek in Balongi, interacted with residents and shopkeepers of the Balongi amid heavy deployment of police force to conduct thorough checking in the area. “The operation was aimed at infusing fear among anti-social individuals and instilling a sense of security among people,” he said.
The operation was conducted from 11am to 3 pm simultaneously in all 28 police districts of the state and Special DGP/ADGP/IGP/DIG-rank officers from PPHQ were deputed in each police district to personally supervise the operation. The CPs/SSPs were directed to mobilise maximum force to carry out this operation. Over 1,500 teams, comprising over 11,000 police personnel, cordoned off as many as crime hotspots in the state. A total of 236 nakas were also laid in and around the hotspots, he said. During the operation, the police teams registered 140 FIRs.
The DGP said the ‘CASO for safe neighbourhood’ initiative involved a multi-faceted approach, under which the crime data was analysed at various levels to study patterns, identify hotspots and understand criminal profiles, which would further help to act strategically and avert such petty crimes.
