DG visits under-construction Shaheed Smarak, asks officials to expedite work

The Director-General Public Relations and Languages Department, KM Pandurang, today inspected the under-construction 1857 Shaheed Samark in Ambala Cantonment and directed officials to expedite the work.

He also directed the officials to ensure quality in the art work. The smarak is being constructed to commemorate the sacrifice of unsung heroes of the first revolt of 1857 in Ambala.

He held a review meeting with the officials and inspected the work. The Director of the smarak, Dr Kuldeep Saini, presented a report regarding the ongoing work and the officials also gave a presentation regarding the artwork. The officials of PWD (B&R) also gave a detailed report regarding the civil work.

While inspecting the Shaheed Smarak, the Director-General instructed the officials to complete the museum as well as the administrative block and various galleries, including event at Ambala, outbreak at Ambala, war at Ambala, outbreak in Haryana, Haryana documentary, war in Haryana, war in India, atrocity tunnel, atrocity in India, tribute tree and other galleries as soon as possible.

"This is a big project and this will achieve its position in the country and abroad, so there should be complete focus on every aspect while constructing the museum. Besides this, a special attention needs to be paid to the quality of the construction work. An effort is being made to showcase the story of the freedom struggle that started from Ambala, under one roof. Regarding the freedom struggle, the government is constructing a martyrs’ memorial of the First War of Independence in Ambala itself. Efforts are being made to show all aspects related to this freedom struggle through 22 galleries. Necessary guidelines have been given to the officials of the department concerned to expedite the work, work with better coordination and complete the construction work at the earliest so that it can be inaugurated and dedicated to the people” the Director- General Said.

The DG was informed that the civil work would be complete soon and there would be the facility of helipad for the VIPs.

The Director-General said there would be an open-air theatre for seating 2,000 persons, an exhibition hall, food court, toilet block, rehearsal room, auditorium, coffee shop, food court, sitting area, lobby, courtyard, library, e-library and other facilities in the smarak. The water bodies will have various types of fountains, water screens and connecting bridges. There will be an over 150-foot-high memorial tower and underground double basement parking facility for vehicle parking at the smarak.

The Horticulture Department should also plant ornamental plants here so that the beauty of this place can be enhanced.

SDM Ambala Cantonment Satinder Siwach, XEN PWD (B&R) Ritesh Aggarwal, and several other officials were present on the occasion.
