Against the backdrop of detection of a trans-border tunnel originating from Pakistan in Samba sector, Director General (DG) of Border Security Force (BSF) Rakesh Asthana on Friday praised the BSF troops for their alertness, saying “it has ruined the cruel motives of the counterpart”.

Asthana, who arrived at the Frontier Headquarters Jammu on three days visit of International Border, also visited the critical areas along the border and reviewed the overall deployment of BSF and also the domination plan.

Official sources said the DG was all praise for the alertness of the troops deployed along the International Border as they had also shot down an arms-laden Pakistan drone in Rathua village of Hiranagar sector on June 20 this year.

On August 28, the BSF had detected a tunnel approximately 25 feet deep and about 3-4 feet in diameter in Indian Territory near the border fencing in Galar area of Samba sector.

Pakistan-made sand bags with marking of Karachi factories were also found at the mouth of the tunnel to hide it. The place of the opening of the tunnel was around 170 metres from IB towards Indian side in the field of a local farmer.

According to an official spokesperson, the DG BSF visited areas of Pargwal and Akhnoor sectors of BSF to take stock of situation on the first day of his visit.

He was accompanied by Additional DG (WC) SS Panwar, Inspector General (IG) BSF Jammu Frontier NS Jamwal, and other officers.

During the visit, the Inspector General briefed the DG BSF about complexities of management of Jammu border under prevailing current security scenario.

Asthana visited the critical areas of chicken neck stretch of Akhnoor sector and held discussion with sector/unit commanders on the ground and reviewed security situation.

He also interacted with jawans and was full of praise for BSF jawans for their dedication towards the safeguarding of the International Border.

“He also conveyed that BSF is a well disciplined and professional force. Motivated border jawans met their new chief with full enthusiasm and zeal with COVID-19 protocols and social distancing,” the spokesperson said.
