Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri today inaugurated ‘Eat Right’ fair at Ramlila Ground in Una city where he stressed on the promotion of food items prepared using local farm produce and by members of women self-help groups. He said traditional cuisine needs to be conserved and propagated.

Agnihotri said the aim of organising the fair was to educate the people regarding consuming healthy food to keep diseases at bay. He directed the district administration to earmark places on both sides of the Rampur to Haroli bridge over the Swan river where locals can set up traditional and healthy food marts.

The Deputy Chief Minister said a sum of Rs 2,000 crore was being spent in Una district to provide 100 per cent irrigation facilities to the farmers, while the detailed project report to construct a bridge over the Gobind Sagar reservoir between Lathiani with Mandli villages was complete and the work would be executed at a cost of Rs 400 crore. He added that the state government was investing Rs 1,000 crore to create infrastructure at the upcoming Bulk Drug Park in the Haroli subdivision.

Agnihotri said like apple for the higher reaches of the state, potato crop will boost the economy of farmers in the lower regions and the state government was developing strategies to strengthen the marketing system where the farmers are guaranteed proper value for the produce and are not cheated by middlemen in the system.

Agnihotri, who also holds charge of the Art, Language and Culture Department, said Himachal Pradesh attracts religious tourists from all over the country. He said it was the responsibility of the concerned district administration to plan and develop facilities for devotees. He informed that the Mata Chintpurni temple in Una district was being renovated and better facilities would be provided to the devotees, for which a sum of Rs 300 crore was being spent.

Agnihotri said heavy vehicles such as tippers would not be allowed to ply on the roads in Una district from 7 am to 9.30 am and, from 6 pm to 9 pm as these were peak rush hours. He reiterated the commitment to wipe out drugs and illegal mining from Una district. Chintpurni MLA Sudarshan Babloo was also present with the Deputy Chief Minister.
