Dense fog throws life out of gear, but beneficial for wheat growers
Dense fog engulfed Sirsa on Saturday morning, reducing visibility to just 2 m and disrupting daily life. Commuters, especially drivers, faced significant challenges, while the fog also increased the risk of road accidents. Despite these disruptions, farmers welcomed the dew accompanying the fog, which experts say benefits the wheat crop.
Narrow escape for schoolkids in accident
- Dense fog led to an accident on the Chakerian-Kalanwali road in the district.
- A school bus collided with a tractor-trailer while overtaking a vehicle.
- According to villagers, the fog was so thick that the bus driver could not see the tractor-trailer in time. The collision damaged the bus’ front windshield and the tractor-trailer.
- No student aboard the bus was injured in the accident.
Transportation services were severely impacted. Several trains departing from Sirsa ran late, including the Kisan Express and Delhi Express. Over the past three days, long-distance and passenger trains, including superfast services like the Gorakhpur-bound Gorakhdham Superfast and the Jaipur-Bathinda train, have been running hours behind the schedule. Daily commuters have borne the brunt of these delays, struggling to reach their destinations on time.
Road traffic was equally affected, with the administration urging drivers to use fog lights and drive cautiously. Traffic police have intensified monitoring on major routes to prevent accidents. However, an incident occurred on the Chakerian-Kalanwali road, where dense fog led to a school bus colliding with a tractor-trailer during an overtaking attempt.
According to villagers, the fog was so thick that the bus driver could not spot the trailer in time. The collision damaged the bus’ front windshield and the trailer, but no children aboard the bus were injured.
As the fog disrupted routine activities, experts noted that the weather is ideal for wheat cultivation, providing some respite to farmers. However, passengers and daily commuters continued to face difficulties, with disrupted train schedules adding to their woes. The administration has urged people to remain cautious during the foggy season, advising safe-driving practices to avoid accidents.
