Dengue larvae found at Karnal District Civil Hospital
The Health Department found larvae of ‘Aedes aegypti ’ mosquito in stagnant water at District Civil Hospital on Wednesday, reflecting a major negligence on part of the health authorities who take responsibility of healthcare in the district.
However, anti-larvae activities were promptly conducted and a notice was issued to the Principal Medical Officer in this regard.
“Larvae of the ‘Aedes aegypti’ mosquito has been found in stagnant water and anti-larvae activities have been conducted. A notice has been served on the Principal Medical Officer and a reply has been sought on the lapses in the hospital’s hygiene,” said Dr Renu Chawla, Civil Surgeon, Karnal.
She said the Principal Medical Officer had asked her to take necessary steps to check the breeding of mosquitoes in future.
As dengue cases surge in the district, Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand visited the office of the Civil Surgeon to assess the situation. He chaired a meeting with the officials and directed them to expedite the sampling process, urging random sampling across the district to identify more cases early on. He also directed them to increase the anti-larvae activities across the district.
The Civil Surgeon briefed the MLA on current case numbers and preventive measures underway to contain the outbreak. So far, Karnal district has recorded 337 dengue cases.

‘Conduct random sampling’
I have asked the authorities to conduct random sampling for detecting cases more effectively. —Jagmohan Anand, Karnal MLA
“I have asked the authorities to conduct random sampling for detecting cases more effectively,” said Anand. He also directed health officials to conduct fogging in collaboration with the Karnal Municipal Corporation to control the spreading of dengue cases.
Additionally, the MLA emphasised the need to monitor private hospitals to prevent excessive charges for dengue treatment. “The Civil Surgeon and Deputy Civil Surgeons have been asked to ensure that private hospitals do not overcharge patients,” he said.
Anand also instructed health officials to compile a list of shortage of doctors in the district so that vacancies can be promptly filled to meet the rising demand for care.
“I have asked for the list of vacant posts, so that these can be filled,” he said.
