Dengue cases surge in Sirsa district; Health Dept on toes

Sirsa district is witnessing an increase in dengue cases, with a total of 78 cases reported so far. In response, the Health Department has deployed teams for intensive larva inspections in both urban and rural areas. On Wednesday, teams conducted inspections in villages, identifying dengue larvae in possible breeding sites, while also raising awareness among residents and issuing notices for violations.

Despite the ongoing efforts, dengue cases continue to rise, with officials warning that if the trend persists, the number of patients could soon surpass 100. On Wednesday alone, four new cases were detected in villages. Out of the total 78 cases, 70 patients have been discharged from hospitals. While three are receiving treatment at the Civil Hospital, five are consulting private hospitals.

To combat the outbreak, fogging operations have intensified in both urban and rural areas. The health Department are conducting medicated sprays in ponds and other potential breeding sites.

Despite the formation of 55 health teams that have been actively investigating dengue and malaria larvae in the past month, the number of cases has continued to rise. Approximately 1,30,000 samples have been collected, and many notices have been issued. However, the changing weather is expected to further increase the incidence of dengue, particularly in rural areas.

Gaurav Arora, District Malaria Prevention Officer, at the Civil Hospital in Sirsa, said urgent measures were being taken by the administration to raise awareness among people and control the spread of dengue and malaria through fogging and medication spraying.
