On the third day, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) today conducted demolition drive in Sectors 52, 52A, 53 and 57.

About 30 kiosks, 3 nurseries and ‘banjara’ shops which were found illegally erected on the master road or green belt under GMDA jurisdiction were demolished. Few temporary huts, a cattleshed and billboards of different companies installed on green belts were also removed. Due to mushrooming of kiosks and other encroachments, the traffic on major junctions was affected adversely which led the authorities to remove illegally built structures.

Residents of nearby societies who witnessed the drive appreciated the GMDA action to resolve the issue of encroachments in the city.

In line with the directions issued by the Chief Executive Officer of GMDA to ensure encroachment-free master roads, footpaths and greenbelts falling under its jurisdiction, the enforcement wing of GMDA is regularly conducting such drives to clear all illegal structures.

The drive was led by DTP GMDA, RS Batth along with Assistant Town Planners and about 15 Junior Engineers. 50 police personnel were part of the drive. Vehicles found to be wrongly parked and causing obstruction to traffic movement were also towed away.

“We will ensure that encroachers have the fear of strict action. If any violators are found to re-encroach the area after the anti-enforcement drive, we will lodge an FIR against them,” said Batth.
