Residents and spiritual leaders have intensified their demand for a separate panchayat for Shri Renuka Ji, one of the most prominent pilgrimage sites of the state. The ongoing restructuring and redistricting of panchayats across the state have prompted locals to submit objections and suggestions to the Deputy Commissioners.

In this context, a formal request to establish a new panchayat named after Shri Renuka Ji has been submitted.

Mahant Swami Dayanand Bharti has written to the Deputy Commissioner, advocating for the separation of Renuka Ji from the existing Khalakyar panchayat and the formation of a new administrative unit extending up to Dhartarhan. Bharti noted that Shri Renuka Ji currently functions as a ward under Khalakyar panchayat — headquartered in Bedoun village.

Although geographically adjacent to the pilgrimage site, the area is administratively grouped with Khalakyar, which has caused dissatisfaction among locals and devotees.

Bharti argued that establishing a dedicated panchayat for Renuka Ji would not only streamline administrative processes but also enhance facilities for local residents, saints, and pilgrims.

“Shri Renukaji should be recognised as a standalone panchayat with all associated wards up to Dhartarhan included under its jurisdiction. This would ensure better governance and facilitate development of the region,” he said.

He raised concerns over attempts to associate Renuka Ji with Khalakyar, highlighting that such a move would disregard the cultural and spiritual significance of the pilgrimage site.

“The formation of a Shri Renuka Ji panchayat will also help in officially registering its name within the state’s Panchayati Raj system, ensuring its recognition and better planning for future needs,” Bharti added.
