In a shocking twist, a theft accused turned out to be none other than the complainant’s son. The accused allegedly stole his father’s mobile phone and transferred Rs 50,000 to a friend in an attempt to settle a personal debt, the police officials said.

On the night of October 5, a resident of Tikri Kalan, Naveen Mahto, reported an incident of theft at his house in outer Delhi. Initial investigation pointed towards a person named Amit Kumar.

“Amit revealed that his friend Rohit Mahto (21) had transferred the amount into his account,” a police official said. With Amit’s cooperation, the police arrested Rohit, who turned out to be none other than Naveen’s son. Confessing to the crime, he admitted that he resorted to stealing his father’s phone after his family refused to lend him money. “He transferred Rs 50,000 to his friend, who was unaware of the theft,” DCP (Outer Delhi) Sachin Sharma said.
