Youth arrested for rape, making video viral of 18-year-old-girl

The police have arrested a youth hailing from Delhi on charges of raping an 18-year-old resident and making her video viral on social media resulting in the breaking up of the victim’s engagement who was due to get married this year.

According to police, the accused, identified as Rahul of Nathupura locality, developed friendship with her in 2022 on Instagram. After taking the victim into confidence, he took her to his residence where he allegedly raped her and clicked photos and videos of the incident to blackmail her, it is reported.

When the victim revealed this matter to her kin, the accused threatened not only to make the photos and videos viral on social media, but also issued a threat to kidnap and kill the girl.

According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s father, the accused hacked her Instagram account and uploaded the photos and videos besides sending them to the prospective groom of the girl.

The police, who had registered a case in July under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, arrested the accused from his house on September 3 after a raid. He has been sent to judicial custody after initial interrogation. Further probe into the matter was on, a police official said.
