What our readers say: Crackers burnt openly violating law
On Diwali, despite the ban, people across the entire NCR burst crackers openly, showing little concern for the law. This contributed significantly to the worsening air pollution, with the AQI level crossing 300 — a level known to cause respiratory issues, heart problems and skin diseases. It seems that people are undeterred by the risks of inhaling smoke from bursting crackers. Additionally, stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana further aggravated the situation. The Supreme Court and the NGT could have enforced stricter measures to curb these activities.

Improper disposal of untreated civic waste
The disposal and release of untreated civic and industrial waste persist unabated, despite the administration’s lofty claims. Hundreds of tankers are involved daily in dumping this waste in open areas or into water bodies such as canals and drains flowing through the city. This practice not only violates regulatory norms but also significantly contributes to air and water pollution in the area. Most residential colonies and a large number of housing societies are forced to rely on private tankers for waste disposal due to incomplete or outdated sewage and drainage systems. As a result, a large part of Greater Faridabad continues to suffer from inadequate civic amenities, impacting the quality of life for residents.
