In many places along roadsides, residents living nearby often dump garbage, which is not collected daily. This not only creates an eyesore, but also emits a foul smell and spreads onto the road by the passing traffic. Open pits pose safety threat to commuters

COMMUTERS in the city have often complained about the increased risk of accidents due to poor civic amenities or negligence on part of the agencies engaged in construction work. Many accidents take place every year due to uncovered pits, drains or sewer lines. However, the officials concerned have failed to take measures for the commuters’ safety. The presence of an open pit on the side of the main road near NIT-3 here has been uncovered for past many days. The civic authorities need to take immediate action against the contractors who fail to adhere to the safety norms.
