The burning of industrial and chemical waste in the vicinity of Sector 58 has been going on with impunity. The resulting hazardous and foul air has become a significant contributor to air pollution in the densely populated NIT area. Despite repeated complaints from locals, the authorities concerned have failed to take adequate measures to curb the menace. Although several agencies are authorised to act against such violations, the poor response and lack of action from these authorities have only worsened the situation. This inadequate regulation is a key factor in making the city one of the most polluted in the country.

Need to desilt sewers in Gurugram

The Residents Welfare Association of Sector 21, Gurugram, has been requesting the Municipal Corporation to take up the work of cleaning/desilting internal sewer lines of the area for the last one year. However, no action has been taken in the matter by the civic body. Consequently, the sludge from the sewers frequently enters the road between Ayyappa Mandir Pocket and the main market, and the Dundahera-Bijwasan road. The frequent leakage of wastewater has made the residents’ lives miserable. The MC should urgently undertake the cleaning and desilting work, and also assess if there is a need for setting up new sewage treatment plants.
