Vice-President bats for freedom of press
New Delhi, November 16
Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu on Monday championed the cause of freedom of the press and stability of jobs, saying any attack on the freedom of the press is detrimental to national interest and should be opposed by all.
In turn, he advised the media to shun the urge for sensationalism, and not mix news with views. In a pre-recorded video message at a webinar on “Role of media during the Covid-19 pandemic and its impact on media” on the National Press Day, Naidu said: “Democracy cannot survive without a free and fearless press.” The webinar was organised by the Press Council of India.
The positive role rendered by all journalists in purveying awareness of Covid-19 and in the bargain their emergence as frontline warriors was appreciated by him. — TNS
