Chief Minister Atishi announced on Wednesday that residents of 1,731 unauthorised colonies in Delhi would no longer need to submit no-objection certificates (NOCs) from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to obtain power connections.

Atishi highlighted the efforts of the AAP government over the past decade under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal to improve living conditions in these colonies. “Significant development has taken place, from road construction to the installation of water and sewage lines,” she said. However, she noted that since last year, residents have faced difficulties in securing electricity connections due to the NOC requirement imposed by the BJP-governed DDA.

The CM explained that her office had received numerous complaints from residents who were forced to pay bribes or go through unnecessary bureaucracy to obtain electricity connections. In response, the AAP government has now ensured that connections will be provided within 15 days without the need for NOCs.

The DDA had previously issued an order in June 2023, prohibiting new electricity connections in 105 urbanised villages within the land pooling areas. Atishi stated the Delhi Government has directed Discoms to provide electricity connections to residents of the unauthorised colonies without any NOC.

Atishi mentioned that residents from Swaroop Vihar Extension, West Kamal Vihar, Mohan Garden, Vipin Garden, and Nawada Extension had personally approached her, sharing their struggles in obtaining electricity connections. “No matter how much the BJP’s DDA tries to harass the residents of unauthorised colonies, the Delhi Government will not allow them to suffer,” she affirmed.
