To tackle winter pollution, Delhi Govt sets up 24X7 Green War Room
With a view to implementing the Winter Action Plan, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Monday re-launched the Green War Room at the Delhi Secretariat.
“To implement the entire action plan and monitor it, a 24x7 Green War Room is being started from today. Seven jobs have been allotted to this Green War Room,” he said.
The Environment Minister said the additional feature of the Green War Room this year was to analyse data with drone mapping. Secondly, the data of the Real Time Source Apportionment Study, which is done at our centre at Deendayal Upadhyay Marg, will also be analysed from the war room. Thirdly, analysis of the satellite data on the smoke produced from stubble burning at various places will also be done on a daily basis at the war room.
Rai said fourthly, like the previous years, the entire Delhi will be connected with the room through the Green Delhi app. Through this app, the whole of Delhi becomes a participant in the fight against pollution.
As part of the public awareness campaign, a “Harit Kalash Yatra” will be taken out in Connaught Place on October 1, announced the Environment Minister.
Rai said the fifth work that is done from the war room is the monitoring of hotspots. “Hotspots are the biggest hurdle in the pollution level of Delhi in winters as these increase the total AQI of Delhi,” he said.
The Environment Minister said sixth, the data of the 24-hour monitoring stations that had been set up at different places in Delhi from where we monitor PM10 and PM 2.5 would be analysed in the Green War Room.
“An eight-member team of our environmental experts has been constituted to run the Green War Room,” he said.
While, 33 departments of Delhi will also work with the Green War Room, including the MCD, PWD, DDA, Revenue Department, DSIDC, Delhi Jal Board, NDMC, Delhi Cantonment Board, DUSIB, Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police, Transport Department.
