Three Class X students drown in Yamuna, one missing
New Delhi, February 21
In a shocking incident, three Class X students drowned in the Yamuna near Burari on Tuesday. The police said one youngster, who is victims’ friend, is missing.
According to the police, four students, residents of Rampark, Loni in Ghaziabad, had gone to the Yamuna.
MK Meena, DCP, North District, said, “The Burari police station received a PCR call that three people had drowned in the Yamuna.”
“A police team immediately reached the Yamuna bank and informed the Delhi Fire Services about the incident. After reaching the spot, police personnel were told that four youths, aged between 15 and 17 years, had drowned in the Yamuna.” the DCP added.
They left their home at 11 am to take a bath. However, when they did not return, their parents went to look for them. The police said when they reached the bank of the Yamuna, they found their clothes.
A rescue boat and three fire tenders also reached the spot to carry out a search operation.
“Three bodies have been fished out of the river. A search operation is underway for the fourth boy,” the DCP said.
“Due to low visibility during night, the operation had to be halted for the time being.” said Harish Kumar, incharge of Delhi Government’s Rescue Boat Club.
