Sub-Inspector arrested for accepting Rs 12.5 lakh bribe; Another officer on the run
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a Sub Inspector (SI) posted in the district police Cyber Cell for accepting Rs 12.5 lakh bribe from an accused involved in a cybercrime case. The bureau has also registered a case under various sections against two police officers, one of whom is absconding. So far, the ACB has recovered nearly Rs 19.97 lakh from the accused.
The arrest followed a raid conducted by the ACB after a complaint was filed. During the raid, the ACB team caught SI Arjun red-handed while he was accepting the Rs 12.5 bribe from the complainant. The team also recovered an additional Rs 7.47 lakh from Arjun's vehicle.
The investigation revealed the involvement of another SI, Ram Chander. When the ACB team attempted to apprehend him at Sector 15 market, Ram Chander managed to evade capture. The two police officers had reportedly demanded the bribe in exchange for helping the accused resolve the case in their favour and extend his bail. The complainant, who was approached with this demand, contacted the ACB, which subsequently laid the trap.
SP Jaiveer Rathi of the ACB confirmed that while one of the accused officers was arrested at the scene, a manhunt has been launched for the second officer, who is currently on the run. The case has been registered under various sections, including the Prevention of Corruption Act. The investigation is ongoing.
