A six-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted by his 35-year-old neighbour in South East Delhi’s Govindpuri area.

The police said the matter came to them on Tuesday, when the boy revealed that he was inappropriately touched by his neighbour, Balram Dass alias Kalu. A case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and the accused was arrested on Tuesday night.

While a police team was en route to the police station, locals gathered and attempted to attack the accused. However, the police managed to transport the accused to the station safely and without injury.

Meanwhile, the crowd surrounded the police station and began protesting, demanding strict action against the accused. As the number of protesters grew, senior police officials arrived at the scene to calm the public and assured them that appropriate action would be taken.

Initially, the boy’s family had reported him missing at the police station on September 1. However, the boy was later found and brought to the station by his family. He was medically examined the same day and then sent to the Boys Care Home.

On Tuesday, the boy’s statement was recorded before a magistrate, and he did not make any incriminating statements. The parents had not accused anyone of sexual assault until Monday. However, when the boy was later presented to the Child Welfare Committee, he alleged that a neighbour had touched him inappropriately, officials said.
